Type Locality and Naming

In the Darbaza quarry, Kuldyktau Mountains, Central Kyzylkum. Ya.B. Aysanov et al. (1984) within the Llandovery (460, p.81). Ya.B. Aysanov et al. (44) described these deposits as the second terrigenous type of Llandovery deposits in the Kuldyktau.

Synonym: Darbazipiskaya Formation, Дарбазинская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Sandstones, gravelites, shales with layers of limestones, conglomerates, tuffs, siltstone (aleurolites), argillites. Thickness 500-600m.

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Along the gradual transition, it lies on the Shuruk-Ord Fm

Upper contact

It is conformably overlain by the Uchkuduk-Sil Fm. (122; 165; 460).

Regional extent

Central part of the southern slope of the Kuldzhuktau Mountains (Uchkuduk area), west and north of the Tuzbulak intrusion, north of Ayakguzhun, south of the Sultanbibi area.
